The Funder Registry provides a common taxonomy of international funding body names that funding data participants should use to normalize funder names and IDs for deposit with Crossref.

The list should be used to present authors with a pre-populated "Funder Name" option at the time of submission, and can also be used to match funder names extracted from papers.

The list is available to download as an RDF file, and is freely available under a CC0 license waiver.

21,023 active funders, 236 defunct or replaced.

Please note that the total number of funders has gone down in this release. We uncovered an error whereby alt names for some funders were being classed as separate funders. The number of replaced or defunct funders in previous release notes has been higher than the true count in the file. This has now been fixed, and the numbers in the release notes from v1.28 onwards are accurate.
